Sushiri smallest musical instrument in India by G Jayaprakash
‘Sushiri’ a musical instrument designed by G Jayaprakash of Trivandrum has been recognised as the smallest musical instrument in India.
Sushiri, a wind instrument is 4.5 cm long 1.5 cm broad and 1mm thick which weighs just half-a-gram.The instrument is recorded in the Limca Book of Records,
It consists of a thin chip of sandalwood with four rows of minute holes on it and a bit of cloth wrapped round. The instrument is held close to the lips with the help of a clip and played with the fingers. The soothing sound that emanates from it is something in between that of the saxophone and the flute.
